Training

In 2017, the Barry Foundation launched its own social dog team training programme.

A social dog team comprises a St. Bernard and a dog handler. During the training, the human-dog team learns how to help people with specific needs in different situations. The 76-hour training programme (theory, practice, self-study and practice at home) concludes with a presentation as well as a theoretical and practical examination. After three interventions accompanied by the team’s own dog, a certificate is awarded.

The training programme for social dog teams developed by the Barry Foundation has been accredited by ISAAT – the International Society for Animal Assisted Therapy since the end of 2021. In Switzerland, it is currently the only training in this field that meets the requirements of ISAAT.

As a competence centre for therapy, education, coaching and animal-assisted activities (AAA), we will be delighted to offer you advice on training and the possible interventions of social dog teams in a wide range of situations.
